SUCCESS STORIES

Sustainable works, projects and happy customers

CT - NOFA (Northeast Organic Farming Association)

Our team was brought in to help develop a more diverse membership with a focus on the sustainable business community.  We secured the first ever underwriter for the 2016-2017 CTNOFA Farm & Food Guide and the first Gold Sponsor of  the 2016 CTNOFA Winter Conference. We conceived, developed and promoted “Keep it Covered,” a CT NOFA carbon farming and regenerative agriculture campaign which supports Governor Malloy’s GC3 goal of achieving an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This campaign mirrors the commitment of France and other signatories of the 4 Per 1000 Initiative to grow soil carbon stocks by .04% per year to build healthy soil while stemming climate change.

ConEdison Solutions

For the Bard MBA in Sustainability, Amy Kalafa was part of a team that produced a research-based  sustainability approach with 21 prioritized initiatives for aligning ConEdison Solutions' sustainability efforts with the parent company's sustainability strategy.  Each initiative was tied into a Key Sustainability Aspect that was material to the company and would enhance their financial, environmental and human capital goals. Upon completion of this project, the ConEdison Solutions Sustainability Committee chairman was promoted to Sustainability Director for ConEdison, Inc.

Sustainable America

Sustainable America is an organization devoted to making America's food and fuel systems more resilient and efficient. Amy Kalafa produced a series of videos that weave Sustainable America's distinctive infographics with interviews and documentary footage of the organization's impact investments, public events and educational campaigns.  The videos are being used online, at informational events and for fundraising purposes, helping them reach an audience of 17,800,000 and growing.   As of Jan. 1, 2016, Sustainable America is responsible for  preventing 43,200,000 lbs of C02 emissions and has  diverted 26,600,000 lbs of food waste from landfills.

"We really wanted to do this, but didn't know how to get started," says Vassar's Sustainability Coordinator, Alistair Hall.  As part of an net-zero thermal energy consulting team called Resource Force, Amy Kalafa conducted a feasibility study for replacing Vassar's fossil-fueled heating system with a net-zero geothermal combined heat and power system (CHP) fueled with solar PV and locally-sourced renewable plant-based biomass.  The recommended model will not cost more per year than the college is currently paying for heating and cooling.
